I seem to have had an ongoing challenge when it comes to gaining a mutual understanding about the source of happiness. Some people in my life have made it clear that happiness is something they can give to someone else. Ever heard the phrase "I can / can't make you happy"? I know I've heard it. In fact I've heard it, read it, seen it, and overheard it many times. I feel sad that so many of these times it's been in the context of someone saying "I can't make you happy"
There seems to be a constant need to move towards achieving happiness and I get that. Being happy is so important. The thing is, how do we really be happy? Earlier today I read a great article about happiness and choices. This was after I'd had a great session with a client who's core passion is to help others to understand that we all have choices in life. It seems so timely that these 'signs' all show up, one after another, in my day (got to love synchronicity) and therefore I figured it was time to tackle happiness in this destination series for the innovation challenge. While the article effectively has a flavour linked to happiness and relationships, it's core message is about happiness being a choice. That, for me, cemented my belief that our happiness is our own responsibility and that led me to decide to offer you the chance, through today's Innovation Challenge to ask the following;
- "What is happiness?"
- "What can you do to take responsibility for your happiness?"
- "What choice will you make that will take you closer to happiness?"
- "How will you know when you've got to happiness?"
That's it! Easy hey? (I smile with cheekiness as I write that last bit and wish you bundles of effortless ease defining and achieving your destination happiness)
Wishing you succulent, effortless success and a whole lot a happy
